Curating COmmunity in San Francisco
When I moved to San Francisco around a year ago, I faced a struggle many transplants probably know too well… starting completely over and trying to find my community in a new city.
After moving from Toronto to Los Angeles on my own after university, I knew I can do it a second time! It started with months of navigating the quiet reality of having no one to invite to anything. I made a decision to instead of chasing after a community, I realized that I would build one.
That decision led to Mahjong & Mixes!! I made this an investment in my community and ordered tables, mats, mahjong sets and printed out instructions. We host on a optional donation basis to make it free for everyone! A monthly (or as often as our schedule allows it) third space designed to bring people together offline over mahjong, matchas (made by yours truly) and curated live music!
In a digital age where genuine human connection is in such high demand. 4 events later…
- 110+ attendees gather at every monthly event.
- A consistent 150+ person waitlist.
- 100% organic growth driven through social media and word of mouth.
Bringing my love for curating community, i brought my home cafe to life. Serving fresh matcha lattes.
I sometimes like to draw! :)
